Short answer
Where to find it and where to use it
There is no guaranteed spawn point. Like every key in Arc Raiders it is a random container roll, and the reliable approach is to loot the container types that roll keys rather than run a route.
- Container types: wooden drawers, cabinets, suitcases, and metal drawers. Residential furniture is what you want, not industrial crates.
- Dam Battlegrounds: Pale Apartments, Ruby Residence, and Pattern House are the most commonly reported spots. The upper floors of the Research and Administration building also come up often.
- Buried City: Grandioso Apartments and the houses east of the Abandoned Highway Camp.
- Stella Montis itself: the Lobby, the Business Center, Medical Research, and the Cultural Archives all report drops.
- Other raiders: this key is common enough that killing a squad on the way to the Lobby is a genuine way to get one.
Rare sits one tier below the Archives Key, so this one shows up reasonably often. Put it in your Safe Pocket immediately, because the walk to the door goes through the busiest area on the map.
What it unlocks
The door sits on the upper floor near the Security Bridge, north east of the Lobby. Two sets of directions describe the same approach.
- From the Lobby, head to the northern section and look for the barricaded door with SECURITY written down the left side of it.
- Go through into the stairwell area. The locked door that asks for the Security Checkpoint Key is in there.
A second guide describes it as following the corridor that runs left out of the Lobby up to the Security Bridge level, which lands you at the same place. The Lobby is one of the busiest drop points on Stella Montis, so treat the approach as contested. Clear the stairwell before you open anything.
Worth knowing: the Security Checkpoint area is also one of the spots on Stella Montis where other keys roll, so the trip is not wasted even if someone beat you to the locked room.
What is inside
This is the room people go out of their way for.
- Lootable lockers along the walls
- Black boxes
- Raider backpacks and weapon crates
The reputation is rare blueprints and epic rarity items, and it is the reason a rare key gets treated like a bigger one. Loot is still randomly rolled, so nothing is guaranteed, but the container mix here skews higher than the two uncommon key rooms on the map.
Shredders are commonly reported in this area. The useful trick is to close the door behind you once you are in, which keeps them from walking in while you are working the lockers. There is a metro excavation nearby that gives you an exit route once you are loaded.
Is it worth the detour
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Rarity | Rare |
| Loot zone | Orange, mid tier |
| Door | Security room by the Security Bridge, north east of the Lobby |
| Room size | Medium, lockers and raider containers |
| Verdict | The best value per minute of the four Stella Montis keys |
Yes, and this is the one to prioritize if you only carry one Stella Montis key. The door is close to the Lobby, which most raiders pass through anyway, so the detour is short. The key is rare rather than epic, so you will actually find one. And the loot skews toward blueprints and epic items rather than bulk scrap.
The counterweight is traffic. The Lobby and the corridors north of it see more players than anywhere else on the map, so the risk is other raiders far more than it is machines. Go early in the raid or go quiet.
How keys work in Arc Raiders
The rules are short and they do not change from key to key.
- Single use. The key is consumed when you open the door. There is no reusable key in the game, so every door you open costs you the key that opened it.
- Lost on death. Anything outside your Safe Pocket goes to whoever kills you. Move a key into the Safe Pocket as soon as you loot it, not when you are already walking to the door.
- Rooms reset between raids. A locked room is locked again next raid, no matter who opened it last time. You are never too late.
- Containers and players are the sources. Cabinets, drawers, desks, and lockers roll keys, and other raiders carry them. Killing someone who was heading to a door is a perfectly good way to get the key for it.
One more thing that catches new raiders: the door does not care whether you are ready. Clear the area first, then open. Opening a locked room with a Shredder behind you burns the key and usually the run. Count your free inventory slots before you commit, because a key spent on a room you cannot carry out of is a key wasted.
Other keys on Stella Montis
Four keys are worth learning on this map. If you are building a route, the Security Checkpoint and the Archives sit on the east side, and Assembly and Medical Research sit on the west.
- Stella Montis Archives Key: epic, the only one on the map, opens the big Storage Room past the Cultural Archives.
- Stella Montis Assembly Admin Key: uncommon, opens the admin office just off the Central Corridor in Assembly.
- Stella Montis Medical Storage Key: uncommon, opens a small storage room inside Medical Research.
- Every Arc Raiders key location: the full list across every map.
- Stella Montis interactive map: every marked door, extract, and POI in one place.
Frequently asked questions
- Where do you use the Stella Montis Security Checkpoint Key?
- On the locked door in the security area by the Security Bridge, north east of the Lobby on the Stella Montis upper level. From the Lobby, head to the northern section, go through the barricaded door marked SECURITY, and the locked door is in the stairwell area beyond it.
- What rarity is the Stella Montis Security Checkpoint Key?
- Rare. That puts it one tier below the epic Archives Key and one above the uncommon Assembly Admin and Medical Storage keys, which is a large part of why it is the most practical key on the map to carry.
- What loot is in the Stella Montis security room?
- Lootable lockers, black boxes, raider backpacks, and weapon crates. It has the strongest reputation on the map for rare blueprints and epic rarity items, though every roll is random and nothing is guaranteed.
- Where does the Security Checkpoint Key spawn?
- In residential containers across every map. Dam Battlegrounds spots like Pale Apartments, Ruby Residence, and Pattern House come up most, along with Grandioso Apartments in Buried City and the Lobby, Business Center, Medical Research, and Cultural Archives on Stella Montis itself.
- Can you open the security room more than once?
- Not with one key. Every Arc Raiders key is single use and is consumed when the door opens. The room does reset between raids, so you can come back with another key on a later run.
