The Dam Battlegrounds map in Arc Raiders with the Controlled Access Zone outlined in red in the north of the map near the Power Generation Complex
Dam Battlegrounds. The reticle sits on the Controlled Access Zone in the north. Note that this room is outlined but unlabelled: unlike the other Dam keys, our crop prints no key glyph for it, so treat the red outline as the area and the walkthrough below as the door.

Short answer

Where to find it and where to use it

Two different questions, and people mix them up constantly.

Where the key drops. Nowhere fixed. There is no guaranteed container, no shelf it sits on and no map marker for it. It comes out of the shared loot pool, which means any raid on any map can hand it to you. The wiki narrows the container types rather than the places: electrical panels, computers, drawers and filing cabinets. That is the useful part. Search offices and server rooms, not bedrooms.

Community guides go further and list Ruby Residence, Pale Apartments and Pattern House on Dam Battlegrounds, plus Grandioso Apartments, the Hospital and the Library on Buried City, the Stella Montis Security Checkpoint and Blue Gate's Reinforced Reception. Read those as player reports rather than a spawn table. Nobody has published a drop rate for any key in this game, so ignore any percentage you see quoted.

The other reliable source is other raiders. Check every backpack.

Where the door is. Head to the Controlled Access Zone in the north of the map, in the stretch between the Power Generation Complex and the Pipeline Tower. Then:

  1. Take the ladder down.
  2. Run along the walkway.
  3. Turn left and go down the stairs.
  4. Drop down one more level.
  5. Follow the walkway left, around the pillar.

The door is at the end of that walkway. Some guides call out a destroyed Rocketeer hanging in the cables above it as the visual landmark, which is handy because the catwalks down there all look alike.

There is more than one way in. Guides list the zipline on the northwest dam wall, the sewer access between the floodgate corridors, and the ladder hole. The ladder is the fastest and the most exposed, so it is the one that gets people shot. If you come up from the bottom instead, climb the catwalks on the southwest side of the room.

What it unlocks

One door, and nothing else. The in game description is exactly as blunt as that: it unlocks a door in the Controlled Access Zone on Dam Battlegrounds.

What is inside

A small room, packed tighter than its footprint suggests.

The drawers are the reason people make this trip. Player reports put a high chance on Tempest, Torrente and Wolfpack coming out of them. Wolfpack in particular is an epic throwable that scatters homing missiles at ARC, and it is not something you casually farm elsewhere.

You will see guides quote a total room value in the tens of thousands. We are not going to repeat a number, because those figures come from single runs and they disagree with each other. What is defensible: this is a rare key opening a multi container room with a Security Breach Locker in it, and that is a good ratio.

Is it worth the detour

Yes, more than most rare keys.

The case for it is the container density. Cabinets, desks, drawers and a Security Breach Locker in one small room means you are not walking between pickups, and a Medical Bag or grenade tube spawn covers your consumables for the rest of the raid on its own.

The case against it is the approach. Every route in is a ladder, a catwalk or a zipline, which are all places where you are slow, loud and visible from below. Clear the level before you commit, and do not start a looting animation with your back to the walkway.

How keys work in Arc Raiders

Four rules cover every key in the game.

  1. Single use. The key is consumed the moment the door opens. One key, one entry.
  2. Lost on death unless it is sitting in your Safe Pocket. Keys work directly from the Safe Pocket, so there is no reason to carry one anywhere else.
  3. Locked rooms reset between raids. Somebody else clearing this room does not lock you out on your next run.
  4. No fixed spawns. Keys are random drops from the shared loot pool. No published drop rates exist for any of them.

Frequently asked questions

Where do you use the Dam Controlled Access Zone Key?
On a single locked door inside the Controlled Access Zone in the north of Dam Battlegrounds, between the Power Generation Complex and the Pipeline Tower. Take the ladder down, run the walkway, go left down the stairs, drop one more level, then follow the walkway left around the pillar. The door is at the end of it.
Where does the Dam Controlled Access Zone Key spawn?
It has no fixed spawn. It is a random drop from the shared loot pool, and the wiki lists electrical panels, computers, drawers and filing cabinets as the container types it turns up in. It can drop on maps other than Dam Battlegrounds, and no drop rate has ever been published.
What is inside the Controlled Access Zone room?
A small room with cabinets down the left wall, desks in the middle and drawers on the right. There are usually grenade tubes or a Medical Bag at the back, and a Security Breach Locker in the upper right corner. The drawers are reported to roll Tempest, Torrente and Wolfpack.
Why is the Controlled Access Zone not labelled on the map image?
Because the room is outlined rather than pinned. Our map crop draws the Controlled Access Zone in red but prints no key glyph for it, unlike the other Dam keys, so use the outline as the area and the route below as the door.
Is the Dam Controlled Access Zone Key single use?
Yes. Every key in the game is consumed when the door opens, and the room resets for the next raid. Carry it in your Safe Pocket, since keys work from there and survive your death.
