Extraction is the most dangerous moment of any raid. All your loot means nothing if you die at the exit. Here is how to get out alive.
Understanding Extraction Mechanics
When you reach an extraction zone, you initiate a timer. During this timer, a visible signal alerts nearby Raiders and ARC machines to your position. Other players can see and hear the extraction event, making you a target. You must survive the countdown to successfully leave with your loot.
Pre-Extraction Checklist
- Heal to full health before approaching the extraction zone.
- Deploy a Firecracker covering the most likely approach route.
- Have a Smoke Grenade ready in case you need emergency concealment.
- Check your map for alternative extraction if this one is compromised.
- Clear nearby ARC machines so they do not aggro during the countdown.
Map-Specific Extraction Tips
Dam Battlegrounds:
- North Ridgeline: Safest option. Long walk but ARC patrols are rare this far out. Best for beginners.
- Dam Top: Fast but exposed. Surveyors patrol here regularly. Only use if you are confident the area is clear.
- South Gate: Moderate safety. Watch for Raiders camping the bridge approach.
Buried City:
- Park (Northwest): Moderate safety. Approach through the tree line for concealment.
- Rooftop (Central): Death trap. Snipers camp the surrounding buildings. Avoid during peak hours.
- Subway Exit (Southeast): Best extraction. Requires knowing the metro tunnel network. Low traffic.
Spaceport:
- Runway (East): Open and exposed but fast. Sprint across the tarmac.
- Control Tower (West): Elevated position lets you scan for threats before committing.
- Underground Hangar (South): Safest but ARC machines sometimes camp the entrance.
Stella Montis:
- Cliffside (South): Safest by far. Long walk down the mountain path.
- Peak Landing (North): Extremely dangerous. Bastion patrols the landing pad. Bring Gas Grenades or a Deadline.
Extraction Timing
The safest extraction window is 8 to 15 minutes into the raid. Early extractors are predictable (they spawn, grab the nearest loot, and run). Late extractors are desperate and aggressive. The middle of the timer is when the map is most spread out and fights are least likely near extraction points.
Counter-Camping
If you suspect someone is camping an extraction, throw a Heavy Fuze Grenade or Smoke Grenade into the zone before entering. The explosion or smoke forces campers to reveal their position or relocate. Alternatively, approach from an unexpected angle. Most campers watch the main path.
The Goop Zone Warning
Near the end of a raid timer, the map begins closing with ARC hazards (the community calls this "goop"). This forces all remaining Raiders toward extraction points, creating chaos. If you are still on the map when goop starts spreading, beeline for the nearest extraction. Do not stop to loot. Do not engage fights. Just run.
