# Arc Raiders Spotter Guide: Weak Point, Loot, and When to Kill
Description: The Spotter is the drone that paints you for the Bombardier. Where its weak point is, what ammo works, what it drops, and when killing it is a waste.
What a Spotter is
A small flying ARC reconnaissance drone. It does not shoot you. Its whole job is to see you and tell something bigger where you are.
The in-game codex says it is often compared to the Snitch: it patrols and scans for Raiders, and while it does not call in reinforcements directly, it "does make a lot of fuss while relaying Raider positions to other ARC machines."
Spotters travel in pairs and they belong to the Bombardier. Fextralife calls them "the eyes of the Bombardier," which is the accurate way to think about them. Kill the Bombardier and the Spotters fly away on their own.
Community databases mostly rate it a High threat, for what it enables rather than its firepower, and one rates it Medium. There is no official Embark tier label, so treat any tier you see as a community judgment.
How you know one is on you
Searchlights. Each Spotter carries one, typically white, and it changes color when it detects a player. That flip is the cue that you have been seen, before anything lands.
Worth knowing in the other direction: the codex says hunting Spotters "creates commotion and might draw the attention of opportunistic Raiders looking to eliminate the competition." That is the cost of engaging them, not a tell that you have been marked. No source we read documents an audio cue for a Spotter being on you, so do not plan around hearing one.
Movement is erratic. The wiki and Fextralife both describe unpredictable flight patterns, and others call it fast and agile. Expect it over open ground, near buildings, or between structures.
How it attacks, which is that it does not
It points a laser at any Raider in line of sight so the Bombardier can drop fire on that position. The wiki describes the Bombardier's weapon as a powerful, long-range mortar. Two things make that worse than it sounds:
- The laser marks you through geometry: inside structures, through doors, through windows.
- It can mark you where the Bombardier cannot physically reach, so cover from the mortar is not cover from the mark.
The weakness: the laser needs constant line of sight to work. Break that line and the mark goes with it. A wall, a solid object, or a building the Bombardier cannot shoot into all count.
The wiki's tip is to kill the pair before target lock. No source we read gives the lock duration, a tell for when it completes, or the delay before the barrage lands. Fextralife says only "mere moments later."
Where to shoot it
Thrusters. Every source we read that names a weak point names the same one. Atlas specifies unarmored thrusters, Scrappy flags them as the critical spot.
The armor situation is the good news: the Spotter carries none. The usual ARC rule, that gunmetal plating needs at least medium penetration and heavy armor makes light ammo nearly useless, does not gate this fight. Atlas puts it plainly, any ammo type works and heavier just kills faster.
The wiki lists 80 health with no armor, corroborated only by a database site that may be reading the wiki, and nobody publishes a time to kill or a thruster multiplier. Some guides say a hard-hitting shot knocks it back and severs the beam, but we could not open that source, so treat that as plausible rather than established.
What to bring
- Throwables first. The wiki's tips column says Seeker Grenades work the most efficiently against it. Exact grenade counts trace to a source we could not read, so we are not repeating them.
- Quick Use items that blind, stun or disorient. The wiki lists these as an alternative to killing it at all, and that is often the better trade.
- Whatever gun you already carry. No source names a weapon for the Spotter, and the Anvil and Hullcracker picks you see quoted are for the Bombardier. Build the kit around the mortar fight instead: see /loadouts.
Where you run into them
Spotters track Bombardiers, because a Bombardier is always escorted by two. Databases list the Spotter on Dam Battlegrounds, The Spaceport, The Blue Gate and Buried City, although that list looks inferred from Bombardier spawns rather than from observed Spotter markers.
Documented Bombardier spawn points, which is where the pairs turn up:
- Dam Battlegrounds: Primary Facility, Night Raid only.
- Buried City: Parking Garage roof, Marano Park, north of Plaza Rosa.
- The Spaceport: east of Vehicle Maintenance, The Trench.
- The Blue Gate: Raider's Refuge, Checkpoint, Traffic Tunnel.
The clean exclusion: reporting puts at least two potential Bombardier spawns on every map except Stella Montis, so Stella Montis is the one map with no documented Bombardier, and therefore no documented escort pair. Nothing confirms whether a pair patrols without a Bombardier, and no source publishes Spotter-specific markers, so treat that as an absence of evidence rather than a guarantee. Map detail lives on /maps.
What it drops
ARC Powercell, ARC Alloy, ARC Synthetic Resin, ARC Thermo Lining, Sensors, and the Spotter Relay, which is unique to this machine. Destroying one is worth 100 XP, looting the wreck another 200.
The Relay's value was tuned down in Update 1.2.0 on 13 November 2025, from 5,000 to 2,000 Coins, and no later source we read restates it, so check the current price in game. /keep-or-sell covers the sell or hold call.
When to fight it and when to walk
Kill them first. Destroying both Spotters forces the Bombardier to stop firing until they respawn, and several guides land on the same call: drop the drones, then deal with the Bombardier, which is less accurate without its eyes.
Do not bother. The pair respawns for as long as the Bombardier lives. GamingBolt's advice is to minimize ammunition spent on them and focus the Bombardier instead, using disorienting items to buy the seconds you need to get inside. One guide puts the respawn gap at 20 to 30 seconds, but that is a single boosting-site figure and the wiki says only that a new pair will respawn.
What resolves it is whether you intend to kill the Bombardier. Committing to that fight? Drop the Spotters first, they are cheap and the accuracy relief is real. Otherwise break line of sight, get inside, keep moving.
The mistake this machine punishes
Shooting too late. The tip is to destroy them before target lock, and the usual failure is watching the searchlight change color for a beat before reacting, by which point your position is already relayed.
The second is farming the pair. Killing both while the Bombardier lives just spawns another two, leaving you with less ammo and more commotion, which the codex warns pulls in other Raiders.
Is the erratic flying learned behavior?
No, and that one is settled. Embark's Machine Learning Research Lead Martin Singh-Blom said in a March 2026 interview that the reinforcement learning work covers legged robots: "For drones, we don't need that since we can use traditional control systems, as you'd see in real-world drones."
So the Spotter's flight is conventional drone control, not learned locomotion, and the knockdown recovery stories belong to the legged ARC. More on that at /ai, and the rest of the roster is in /guides.
This is a fan-made companion site, not affiliated with Embark Studios. Everything above comes from the community wiki, in-game codex text, official patch notes and developer interviews, and anything unverified is flagged as such.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the Spotter's weak point in Arc Raiders?
- The thrusters. Every source that names a weak point names the same one, and Atlas specifically calls them unarmored. The Spotter carries no armor plating anywhere, so the usual ARC rule about needing medium or heavy penetration does not apply here, although heavier ammo still kills it faster. The wiki lists it at 80 health, a figure with thin corroboration and no published time to kill behind it.
- Should you kill the Spotter or the Bombardier first in Arc Raiders?
- If you intend to kill the Bombardier, drop both Spotters first. Destroying the pair forces the Bombardier to stop firing until they respawn, and several guides note it becomes less accurate without them. If you are only crossing the area, do neither: break line of sight and move, since the pair respawns for as long as the Bombardier lives and hunting them makes noise that pulls in other Raiders.
- How does the Spotter mark you in Arc Raiders?
- It points a targeting laser at any Raider in its line of sight so the Bombardier can fire on that position. The laser reaches through doors and windows and can mark you inside structures, including places the Bombardier itself cannot physically reach. The one limit is that the laser needs constant line of sight to work, so a wall or any solid object between you and the drone severs the mark.
- Do Spotters respawn in Arc Raiders?
- Yes. If both Spotters are destroyed while the Bombardier is still alive, a new pair respawns. When the Bombardier is destroyed instead, the surviving Spotters simply fly away. The wiki does not state a respawn timer, and the 20 to 30 second figure circulating in guides comes from a single source we could not corroborate.
- What does the Spotter drop in Arc Raiders?
- ARC Powercell, ARC Alloy, ARC Synthetic Resin, ARC Thermo Lining, Sensors, and the Spotter Relay, which only this machine drops. Destroying one awards 100 XP and looting the wreck another 200. The Relay's value was reduced in Update 1.2.0 on 13 November 2025, so check the current price in game rather than trusting an older guide.
- Which maps have Spotters in Arc Raiders?
- Spotters appear wherever Bombardiers do, since every Bombardier is escorted by exactly two of them. Community databases list them on Dam Battlegrounds, The Spaceport, The Blue Gate and Buried City, though that list looks inferred from Bombardier spawn data rather than from observed Spotter markers. Stella Montis is the documented exception, with reporting placing at least two Bombardier spawns on every map except that one.
