Arc Raiders Rocketeer Guide: Weak Points and How to Kill It

How to kill the Rocketeer in Arc Raiders: reading its laser telegraph, the thruster weak points, the ammo that penetrates ARC armor, and when to walk away.

What the Rocketeer is

A large, heavily armored, long range artillery machine that hovers over open ground and rains missiles on anything it can see. The in-game codex says it creates hazardous zones that force Raiders to keep moving or find cover. ARC posts them at high threat locations, or lets them roam.

Two fields get conflated, so read them separately. Armor is Heavy. Threat level is Critical. Health is 1,100. Primary attack is a missile barrage, listed weakness is the thrusters. Payouts: 500 XP for the kill, 600 for scavenging the chassis, 500 for a thruster.

Like the Wasp and the Hornet it stays airborne on thrusters, and the codex calls them technically weak spots that are large enough to take significant firepower. Every source calls it long range and none publishes a distance, so the honest version is this: if it has line of sight to you, treat yourself as in range.

How you know one is nearby

Rocketeers travel slowly through the air at varying altitudes. Its scanner colour tells you where you stand:

Break its field of view after being targeted and red combat runs about 20 seconds, then yellow alert for about the same again.

How it attacks

Before firing it aims four yellow lasers at its target. They line up and turn red a moment before launch, and when the laser disappears that is full lock-on. Two answers, both from the wiki: dodge roll, or get behind cover.

It fires salvos of up to four missiles while it holds line of sight, and breaking that sight line stops the follow-ups. Since patch 1.29.0 (19 May 2026) missiles in a salvo spread over a larger area instead of stacking on one spot.

Nobody publishes damage per missile or a blast radius. Two hits down a Raider, and it kills in two shots through a light shield, both shield dependent. Splash reaches into doorways, so a doorframe is not cover. Whether the missiles track after launch is unconfirmed.

Where to shoot it

The thrusters, and it is not close. An armored body section takes 14 damage per shot. A thruster takes 144. That gap is the entire fight.

Second route: the eyebrow, the forehead V-plate. Shoot it off with a high ARC Armor Penetration weapon, then keep hitting the weak point it exposes.

Thrusters are still not a quick kill: one player reports roughly 20 Ferro shots to take a whole Rocketeer down, and calls that impossible without good cover. Plan for a long fight. Grounding it no longer finishes it either, since patch 1.22.0 (Flashpoint, 31 March 2026) made Rocketeers take less collision damage and stopped them being destroyed instantly on impact when stunned. Any flying ARC stuck on the ground long enough still burns.

The glowing red core some guides name is unverified: the wiki lists only thrusters, eyebrow and unarmored tops.

What to bring

With few exceptions, ammo type rather than raw damage decides ARC armor penetration. Heavy beats Medium and Light, Launcher beats Heavy. Build the loadout around that ladder.

Do not engage without Heavy. One published loadout line is Heavy, at least 50 rounds, on a Ferro or Anvil. The Hullcracker sells at trader Tian Wen.

Throwables shortcut the fight:

Cross-check drops in the items database and the keep or sell tool.

Where it spawns

Outdoors, in open areas. Two independent trackers list the same four maps: Dam Battlegrounds, The Spaceport, Buried City and The Blue Gate. Whether Riven Tides or Stella Montis get them is unresolved: sources conflict and the wiki lists no ARC roster for either.

Named spots are all on Dam Battlegrounds: the Primary Facility between the Control Tower and Water Treatment Control (a reported high spawn rate area, with no published number), southeast near the Testing Annex and Red Lake Elevator, east of Ruby Residences by the northernmost elevator, plus the Testing Annex Building and Pattern House.

Patch 1.22.0 also increased Rocketeer distribution variety during the Night Raid map condition. A wrecked variant appears in the Husk Graveyard event, and the Rocketeer Husk is a separate entity.

It is not a post-launch machine: Tech Test 2 stats from before the October 2025 release already counted Rocketeer kills.

The mistake that kills people

Fighting it in the open. Every source lands here independently: the codex warns that engaging one without sufficient cover will quickly end in your demise, and guides name open terrain without escape routes as the core error. The greedy version is taking one more shot instead of breaking line of sight.

The runner-up is spreading damage across all four thrusters instead of committing to two, and dumping rounds into the chassis at 14 a shot.

Fight it, or leave

Fight when you have hard cover and a reason. Skip it otherwise.

The reason is usually the Rocketeer Driver, needed for the Out of the Shadows quest and the Explosives station upgrade at the workbench. Full drop table: ARC Alloy, Rocketeer Driver, Heavy Gun Parts, Heavy Ammo, ARC Circuitry, Advanced ARC Powercell, ARC Flex Rubber, ARC Powercell, Electrical Components, ARC Motion Core and Launcher Ammo.

The reason to leave is that it repositions constantly, making any given piece of cover unreliable, and it can wipe a squad in a couple of shots. Player opinion is genuinely split, and plenty of them just avoid it.

Across 5,932,650 Tech Test 2 matches it was responsible for 301,564 player deaths against the Queen's 24,137. That is a 2025 pre-launch figure from roughly 30 patches ago, so read it as history, not a current ranking.

Frequently asked questions

How do you kill a Rocketeer in Arc Raiders?
Fight it from hard cover and shoot its thrusters, never its armored body, because a thruster takes 144 damage per shot against 14 on the chassis. Destroying two thrusters brings it down, and one guide specifies that the two should be on the same side. Bring Heavy Ammo at minimum, since ammo type is what determines ARC armor penetration, and use a Showstopper or a Hornet Driver to stun it while you finish an exposed thruster.
What is the Rocketeer's weak point in Arc Raiders?
The thrusters are the listed weakness, and their tops carry no armor at all, so shooting or sticking a grenade to the top from above works. The secondary weak point is the forehead plate players call the eyebrow: shoot it off with a high ARC Armor Penetration weapon and a weak point on top of it is exposed. Some secondary guides also claim a glowing red core, but the official-supported wiki never mentions one, so treat that as unverified.
How do you dodge the Rocketeer's missiles?
The Rocketeer aims four yellow lasers at its target before firing, and those lasers line up and turn red a moment before launch. When the laser disappears it has full lock-on, and at that point you either dodge roll or get behind cover. It fires salvos of up to four missiles while it holds line of sight, so breaking that sight line stops the follow-ups entirely.
What ammo should you use against a Rocketeer?
Heavy Ammo at minimum. Ammo type, not raw damage, decides how easily a weapon penetrates ARC armor, and Heavy outperforms Medium and Light while Launcher ammo outperforms Heavy. In practice that means a Ferro, Anvil or Bettina for Heavy, or a Hullcracker or Rascal for Launcher, with one published loadout recommendation calling for at least 50 Heavy rounds.
Where does the Rocketeer spawn in Arc Raiders?
It spawns outdoors in open areas, and two independent trackers list the same four maps: Dam Battlegrounds, The Spaceport, Buried City and The Blue Gate. On Dam Battlegrounds the named hotspots are the Primary Facility between the Control Tower and Water Treatment Control, the area southeast near the Testing Annex and Red Lake Elevator, and east of Ruby Residences by the northernmost elevator. Whether it also appears on Riven Tides or Stella Montis is unconfirmed, because sources conflict and the wiki lists no roster for either.
Is the Rocketeer worth fighting?
Only when you have hard cover and a reason, because it repositions constantly and can wipe a squad in a couple of shots. The usual reason is the Rocketeer Driver, which the Out of the Shadows quest needs and which unlocks the Explosives station upgrade at the workbench. Plenty of experienced players simply avoid it, and that is a legitimate call on any raid where you are not chasing the Driver.
